The mission of the Bhutan Nuns Foundation (BNF) is to empower and educate Bhutanese women and young girls who are in the nunneries.
Through your support, we can improve the living conditions, health and well-being of nuns, provide quality education and services, and foster self-reliance. This in turn helps preserve Bhutan’s strong, sustainable culture and promotes nuns, other women and girls as agents of social change in a rapidly changing modern society.
In 2009, under the Patronage and initiative of Her Majesty the Queen Mother, Tshering Yangdoen Wangchuck, the founding Executive Director, Dr. Tashi Zangmo, helped actualize the BNF as an organization, and today continues to guide and implement its plans and programmes.
A few kilometers outside Bhutan’s capital of Thimpu, traditionally constructed buildings of the BNF’s Training and Resource Centre are nearing completion. In May 2019, the first resident nuns arrived, and are now serving children of the laborers on site. Scheduled to open fully in 2020, the Centre will provide a full range of programs for female monastics and lay women following the Buddhist path, and serve as a retreat center offering meditation and regenerative workshops, trainings and classes.
The foundation still needs to raise funds to finish construction, and then to plan and support 2020’s first trainings and programmes.
